Identity Project

This was the very first project that we were given. It revolved around designing a logo for our names using our personalities or interests to shape the end design.
To begin with I started looking at logos and typefaces around the city and in books, magazines, etc. After that I started working on some ideas though it took me a while to convey my personality in the type. I was looking into different aspects of my personality like my humourous side and seeing if i could do something silly or slapstick. I also looked at my messy side but that didn't really work.  I moved towards the idea of music as this is a big part of my life. I started working out various ideas to incorporate this. There were many pages like this one with different ideas iterated and reiterated.

One of my ideas was to do with the idea of a soundwave or sound vibrations. I started using the wave form in and around my name. At the beginning I was thinking of using the O as a speaker and having the soundwave vibrate outwards either side from that. Eventually I started to use the actual bars of sound to spell out my name and then I used the negative space to spell out my name once the sound wave was big enough.

I was looking at the way sound appears in audio programmes and how the wave can be broken down into segments. I like the idea of there being nothing there until the music starts and it is the music that energizes and reveals the name.

The first video the name disappeared at the end so I changed this so that as the bar moved back along it reveals the letters of the name and they stay on screen. I will be coming back to change this. If I had to start from scratch I would make more bars and make them thinner and also edit the sound better.
I think the final video and the idea does represent my identity.
